Woke up this morning as I have the past three mornings, cursing myself for yet again forgetting to pick up coffee at the market. I mean, get it together, man.
So, after the self-flagellation subsides, I open Google Maps to find the closest coffee shop "open now." Due to my early morning routine, even in Brooklyn, NY, I can’t find a spot at 7:00 AM.
Unlimited coffee refills
I gather my office gear and some drawing materials, throw them in my travel bag, and jump on a Citi Bike. I haul ass to the closest and earliest-opening cafe, Early Ives, which opens at 7:30 AM. It just so happens to be one of my favorite spots because the drip coffee is endless. These days, I need endless.
Gen Z doesn't get up before 9:00 AM, so the place remains quiet for a while. I can get four hours of work done in two with all the peace and quiet. I finish up at 10:30 AM after uploading some slightly cringy drawing videos, and continue to write this week's newsletter as I go through my day.
As I sit looking outside from my little French-style cafe table, I am thinking about the next spot I will hit today to reward my hard work: PHiL cafe in Bed-Stuy. Off to try Korean Street Toast. Which did not disappoint. Now I love a basic sausage egg and cheese on a roll. its the toasted roll that makes it delicious and unique.
But here at PHiL cafe they take it to a whole new level of flavors with a sweet and savory breakfast sando that was traditionally sold at Korean street vendors, that also has a little bit of a crunch to the thinly sliced viegies that really add to the tasty bite. Phil’s is Also a great place to work at. Smartly designed with lots of seating inside and outdoors in the back. If you live in the neighborhood you must check it out. Also they don’t skip on the fillings, was fully satisfied after.

Paired with this newsletter is my youtube channel where I am making mistakes and learning as I go along, all while listening to the outside nature noise from my Brooklyn back yard. Come join me on my artistic journey. Images that we will be drawing are either from the photos I take on the subway, drawing events around the city or screen grabbed from instagram.
